Uzbekistan national Shakhnoza Begmatova is visiting Orkney to find out more about business and entrepreneurship in the county.

During her trip she's been meeting staff at Orkney College, Highlands & Islands Enterprise, Orkney Islands Council and Business Gateway.

We were pleased to catch up with Shakhnoza to share a few tips. Uzbekistan is currently investigating ways to encourage enterprise among its young people and Shakhnoza is part of a training programme for managers in Uzbekistan supported by the EU, aimed at facilitating this development.

A particular focus for Shakhnoza is encouraging women entrepreneurs into fashion, textiles and design. She's PA to the Chairman of the Business Women's Association of Uzbekistan. Her other areas of interest on the trip include:

  • food and drink preparation
  • ecotourism
  • production/ fabrication
  • organic cosmetics
  • agriculture

Following the visit, Shakhnoza plans to publish inspirational material to encourage women in Uzbekistan to start their own businesses.
