With less than three months to go before the Island Games get underway, we are all looking forward to it.
The Games, which will be running from 12 July to 18 July, are set to be the largest event that Orkney has ever hosted.
Over 2,000 competitors and officials are descending on the island to take part in the 20th International Island Games.
I will be getting involved as the Finance Director and as a volunteer during the Games week.
As the Financial Director, I will be helping make sure that things run as smoothly as they can from both a financial perspective.
As an on the ground volunteer, I will be getting involved in whatever needs doing to make the Games the best they can possibly be.
I am delighted to say that I will not be alone in this endeavour and that my colleagues from Scholes CA will be playing vital roles in making the Games a success.
Many of our team will be acting as attachés to the islands, handling their questions and concerns ahead of the Games and liaising with the Team Manager to ensure a smooth process.
We will be posting more about the work each team member is doing ahead of the Games.
The attachés from Scholes are:
- Karen Scholes, who is supporting the Falklands
- Ivan Houston, who is supporting Gozo
- Lauren Montgomery, who is supporting the Western Isles
- Jade Rosie, who is supporting the Isle of Man.
As well as working as attachés, some of the team are rolling their sleeves up and getting stuck in in other ways.
Graeme Leask has been involved with the Orkney Amateur Football Association for many years and is turning his expertise into helping organise the football as part of the Games.
Meanwhile, Andrew Moar will be helping prepare the local squash club for the games and will be taking part in them himself.
We’re all rooting for Andrew to bring home the win, but whatever happens, we know that these Games will be great fun for all involved.
These Games are a vital symbol of island life and the international community, and all of us at Scholes CA are working hard to make them a success.
