Introducing the new ICAS president – Karen Scholes

Karen is in the press!

We are delighted to announce that our very own Karen Scholes has been appointed the new President of ICAS for 2025 – 2026.

Karen becomes the sixth woman to ever hold the position in the organisation's 171-year history.

Having previously held the role of Vice President of ICAS in 2023 and Deputy President in 2024, Karen is well acquainted with the operations of ICAS.

In light of the news, Karen had this to say:

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be President of the world’s oldest professional accountancy body and the organisation that’s been the advantage throughout my career. Established in 1854, ICAS has a long and storied past but it’s to the future I’ll look during my term in office.

“Our internationally respected Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification is the key to unlock a successful career in business, finance, accountancy and beyond, and my focus will be on helping to inspire the next generation and widen access to the profession.

“I’d also like to underscore how the adaptability and employer-friendly nature of ICAS’ CA-training model makes it easy and affordable for all kinds of organisation, large and small, to add the best business talent.

“Finally, I’ll lead an important discussion on the future role of the Chartered Accountant, taking an optimistic view of how our profession can evolve to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead – from working smarter with AI to building and leading the sustainable economies of tomorrow.

“I look forward to collaborating with David, our Deputy President, Jonny, our Vice President, and the ICAS Executive Team, to ensure that ICAS can keep growing, adapting, and making a real difference—no matter how much the world changes.”

We wish her all the best in this endeavour.
