Charting Karen’s journey to Africa for WildHearts

Travelling through Lusaka in Zambia, Lilongwe and Salima in Malawi, and Johannesburg in South Africa, Karen Scholes has recently embarked on an expedition to assist WildHearts in their goal to help women and girls thrive.

WildHearts has worked to transform over two million lives by utilising business as a force for good.

Countless local businesses, spearheaded by entrepreneurial women, have sprung forth from the work done by WildHearts.

For more information about how you can support WildHearts, get in touch with them here.

Karen decided to see firsthand the positive impact that WildHearts has on the lives of women and girls throughout Africa.

Her first stop on the journey was Lusaka, where Karen got the chance to meet the MicroLoan Team.

By providing small loans, savings facilities, and ongoing training and business support, this team equip women with the necessary assets to establish and run successful businesses.

The aim is to foster long-term, sustainable change that serves to empower the women of different communities to forge their own business legacies.

Karen got the chance to meet some of the women aided by WildHearts and see first-hand the blossoming businesses.

From there, Karen headed to Malawi, where she visited both Lilongwe and Salima.

Here, Karen spent an office day with the MicroLoan Foundation team so that she could better understand the scope of the training that they provide across the country.

As well as meeting local business women, Karen also got to make friends with zebras and other local wildlife.

Johannesburg formed the final part of Karen’s life-changing journey and allowed her to gain a full appreciation of the impact that WildHearts can have on a range of different communities.

Having a real-world, positive impact is at the core of both Wildhearts and Scholes CA, and Karen’s trip to Africa embodies the good that can be done when business and charity meet.

Karen’s journey was documented on LinkedIn, and future endeavours will appear there too.
